I'm trying to decide which one to get. I have a 120 with a 40 gallon sump. I'm considering the ASM G3. Is it to much? Is it big enough? I don't think I could go bigger since I only have 26.25 inched of height under my stand.

Anyone know how much clearance I need to get the cup off of a G3?

ASM is a fantastic brand to choose I highly recommend it for your setup the model your looking at is perfect just take some measurement's of your clearance in your sump area.

Also, does it make sense to buy these things used? The markup from new to used is 150, but if the pumps have to be replaced after 4 yrs, that eats up 100 of it anyways.

asm skimmers are great! i bought a used G2 with a brand new sedra 5000 pump( same pump as on a G3) and this skimmer will skim the snot out your nose if your whithin 5ft of the tank;)

only takes about 1/2" clearance to get my cup off, not shure if the g3 is the same.

What do you folks think of the MSX? I'm thinking about the 200 or 300. Its dimensions fit my sump better, and leave me more space on top above for maintenance. It also seems to be rated for a larger tank.
