My first snake! A ball python.

I finally got my first snake! Its a craigslist find. I got the snake, 30g aquarium with sliding screen lid, substrate, hide, water bowl, heat/UV lamp, heat pad, and cork bark hide. I traded a 55g tank, stand, and 4 foot light fixture for it.

The snake itself is about 30" long (same length as the aquarium right now). I'm not sure on the sex, as the person I got it from wasn't sure either. Any hints on sexing it myself?

It's a very calm snake. I got home with it last night, and I let it explore my lap and couch while my fiance and I watched a half hour of tv. It acted very curious with no startling. We both already love having the snake .

Thanks! We're really stoked about it. I've been wanting a snake for a long time, and I finally managed to find a revenue-neutral way to get one. Once I've kept him/her for a while and gotten used to taking care of a snake, I may try getting another one, or maybe a different kind of reptile.

Yeah, I know. But the girl I got it from already had a UV bulb in there, and I was so excited I wasn't thinking about that. I'll probably just put a regular flood bulb in there once this one dies.
