That analog temp or humidity gauge isn't going to be very accurate and make sure you have a thermostat for your heating. Heat lamps dry out the air a bit too much, so I wouldn't use them.

I was deciding whether to buy those gauges you have there when I was over at the US a month ago..then I decided and remembered, DIGITAL is always better. In any case, nice snake, and I suppose, based on care info that you don't have to worry too much over hunger strikes unless the ball loses weight.

Good lookin snake! I used to have a ball python way back. They are great snakes. I would agree on ditching the analog thermometers and getting digital probes. As for the heat lamp... maybe not the best option but I used it when I had my python. To keep the humidity in I just put damp towels on the screen. Worked very well.

Sounds good. I like the coconut bricks which I think is the same thing, but I removed mine because I found that the heat didn't really go through it too well.
Just make sure you get a thermostat with the heating pad, they get really hot ... 110 or even higher sometimes! :) They like a nice 90-92 belly heat.

ive read somewhere that i can just get a dimmer switch, all i have to do is dial it in just right any thoughts on that? whats the best place to put the heat pad? is under his hide best?
sorry for all the questions i just wanna make sure i provide the best care for him :D

Dimmer switch will only help some. You should have one hide over it and another identical hide on the cooler side.
I would get a heat gun to measure the temps over the heat pad if you really want to go dimmer switch, but you can get a thermostat from big apple reptile supply for about $40.

Dimmer switches are only good if your house remains at a VERY consistent temperature at all times. I've used these thermostats...http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-MTP...?s=garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1310613293&sr=1-1...and they work pretty good. I've never had one fail yet. Ultimately, a Herpstat or Helix is better and more reliable, but those are pretty good if you are on a budget.
