The Unknown...
About 2 months ago I posted a few pics of my needlenose gars thinking that I was ok in doing so and in the process got slammed for not having a "true gar" and being in the wrong place. :grinno: Fast forward to a few days ago and somehow I was fortunate enough to come across a "true gar" and jumped at the opportunity to get him. They aren't easy to come by where I live. Thanks again Charles! As you can see he's a spotted gar and he's about 5". He's healthy for the most part despite the fact that he apparently had a little run in with a puffer fish and lost his right front fin in the process. I'm not sure if it will grow back or not, but he's still a lil guy so I'm going to try and beef him up a little bit and maybe it will grow back. Anyways I added some feeders to his tank earlier today and he ate for the first time so I'm happy about that. He had an epic battle with this large guppy and it took him about 10 minutes of wrestling with it before he finally swallowed it down. Here are some pics.

lookin good! I'm sure we weren't trying to slam you...It's really more of a matter that it gets old when people post "false" gar here and honestly, there isnt enough info on the gar forum to teach people the difference....searching through old threads is the most useful thing since those types of threads come up just about every week....

Anyway, back to the true gar you have now. Glad you had the chance to get him. He looks healthy. I'm sure with time his fin will heal fine. If needed, bump up the heat and add a little salt. Sometimes this helps the healing process.

lol I wasn't offended and I'm sure you all get tired of correcting people all the time when then don't have the right fish. Anyways I'm part of the gar family now and happy to be here! =)

congrats
great looking gar

very nice. I'd like to find something besides gator gars here.

Nice little gar, at that size they grow pretty quick if they get lots of food.
