Hi there. I'm Theresa from the Philippines. I need help with my FH. I think it ate something that did not agree with him. Suddenly he was swimming upside down. So i restricted his space to keep him upright. He was not eating. First I thought that he probably hit his head and was just dazed but after three days his bottom area where he excretes became swollen, red, and was decaying. So i placed some penicillin tablet which I powderized. It healed his wound. AAnd he was able to potty. But now he cant seem to keep his balance. So i still keep him contained. I have limited resources. I dont know how to check the water acidity. Please help me. I am worried for my baby fish. :WHOA:

Well I hate to say it but when fish get that bad it's almost impossible to cure.

Got this off a web page, it's called rolling/torpedo

Hydrogen Sulfide, Eldrin, organophosphate poisoning, copper poisoning etc., could be the reason. It's usually a poison which causes a neurological disorder like rolling and spiral swimming. You have to do a massive (70+ %) water change with a chloramine and heavy metal binding neutralizer like Dechlor or Detox.

That MIGHT be the cause but wait for more replies, hopefully something will help.

Sounds also like it could be a swim bladder disorder due to bacterial infection.
And you are sure the fish is not constipated?
There can be a few root causes.

How is the fish's health other than the imbalance?

Good luck

Could be what Chicklette says. But, try a large water change and feed a high veg diet, definitely could be a swim bladder isssue as well. Attempt to treat for swim bladder problems first...hopefully it isn't rolling torpedo! Post a pic if possible...

i think it had a bacterial infection because its tummy was all sore and red and bloated, and then it started to rot... i gave it some penicillin antibiotic and the sore got healed. but he is still swimming sideways. He has a good appetite though. And i believe that it was constipated or is still. What shall I do to cure the constipation? thank you so much y all for the quick reply.
