 A new fish I recently purchased has been displaying a very strange and odd symptom. Its original bright tropical colors has been replaced with a grayish-black all over the scales. The fish has been acting fine (spare one instance of erratic behavior of repeated diving), but now it seems another fish has caught whatever it is! This color change actually went away the day before, but after several hours it came back and now its on the fins! Is it a disease? Is it stress? Whats the cure? I could sure use your help on figuring it out. I haven't been able to find any fish site on the internet that could identify this symptom.

Update!
My fish is getting more coated in the black by the hour! Some new pucish yellow color is now involved hear. Now his fins are practically changed from golden to black. I wonder if its some sort of fungus or mucus being produced from stress? Perhaps its some sort of new tank sydrome or even a reaction/irritation? The fish is a guppy--if thats any help. Please respond. :shark:

:(

Pics would be helpful, I have never heard of that.

What kind of fish? Pics please.

 A Fancy Orange Fantail Guppy. Here's a dull shot of my Guppy. (My camera isn't the greatest one), but if you look carefully you see the dark coloring at the back of its belly and all over the back and some of the sides. The darkest of them all is the fins which are totally dark. Its not a pure dark color, but more of blotchy patches. Basically its losing its tropical colors and they're being replaced with this dirty color! :shark:

 Some new information has come to my attention. When we turned on the tank light this morning, the fish looked practically healthy again. Several minutes later, the old black patches were back! Is this a symtom of stress or something?:shark:

:stingray:

I have never come across that.

 Me either dude. Any one have an idea at least? :shark:

salt em up :grinyes:
:iagree: IMO fish change color when the lights are on. almost all of my fish are usually dark, striped, and/or blotchy when the lights are off and just the room light is on. after a while of the tank light being on, the fish usually brighten back up. however, you are saying that it's the opposite so i'm not sure. good luck though.
