My fish got in a lip lock with his new tank mate about 2 weeks ago. But he caught an infection and it slowly getting worst after that. He now has a swollen mouth filled with white puss. Im getting goose bumps thinking about it. I scooped him out and squeezed so much puss out of it.. I mean a lot! It was like emptying a full tooth paste tube. That's how it came out and that's how much it looks like came out. Im still having goose bumps.

I've used 3 or 4 doses of Pimafix. Didnt fix.
Now Im treating him with Clout right because it is the best fungus med to me that I've used.. (but these Clouts are not as good as the Clouts I've always used before. I think theyre making them weak now)

I got API fungus cure ready.

Anyone had this before and can you please help me? I feel so bad for the poor guy.. I shouldn't have brough the other fish home. :screwy::confused:

still got goose bumps a lil from the squeezing out his puss. His nose area is pussed up I think because there's puss coming out out his nostril too. White puss coming out like tooth paste.

Still got goose bumps a lil. Nasty!.

You should NOT have treated the fish with anti fungal meds. This is not fungus at all!

Iodine solution would have been the answer or hydrogen peroxide but as it's on the lips, this is very dangerous. I'm not sure Biobandage may help here. The only option right now is use salt to help keep bacteria out of the infected area.

What are your water parameters right now?
Is the fish under quarantine?

Keep your tank barebottom and operate with a filter. Increase temperature to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, dose salt at a teaspoon per gallon and use completely new water. Add another set of salt in the next 12 hours and the last one after another 12 hours to summarize a total of 3 teaspoons per gallon or 0.3% concentration. It should be enough to prevent the lips from getting further infected.

I will do that. Change water and add salt. What medication should I use again? Im not clear..

I would use an antibiotic treatment...something like Maracyn II should work. Anti fungals will not help. I would get him into a QT tank as any antibacterial meds could kill the beneficial bacteria and you will lose your cycle. Perform daily water changes.

Yeah...thats nasty. Lupin is very knowledgeable & trusted and will never give you bad info. I would do EXACTLY what he says to do ASAP.

heat speeds up the process and helps the bacteria spread...
if heat and moisture didn't cause bacteria to grow, woman would wear leather more right ?
anyway, i just lost a fish to this same problem, i tried turning up temp and using salt..
it wasnt till afterwards someone with better knowledge told me i had done the wrong thing..
you need meds to get rid of bacteria.. and fast..

Do you have access to kanamycin? This is the best antibiotic you can try. Just for reference though, kanamycin cannot be used for cases involving dropsy even though it is an antibiotic. It is nephrotoxic to fish with kidney damage.
