I think it's the height difference, have you ever had a tank that sits really low and noticed how skittish the fish were? I think that's why fish seem to get comfortable with kids first, because they're short. My pearsei won't eat until I back away either, but if I sit on the floor in front of the tank he begs and swims in front of me all day long.

Makes sense but my wife isnt much shorter than me and he used to eat out of my hand, after the wife taught him.

Even does it if im sitting in a chair. Again all new behavior. I still think hes associating me with being netted...

He was netted a bunch of times this year and probably 3 times the past couple of months which is when he personality totally changed

It's a possibility.... but if that's it he should eventually forget it. Pearsei aren't naturally skittish IMO. Just keep spending time in front of the tank in a chair.

Oh i totally agree. The fish used to be a maniac. I just thought it was interesting that he was differentiating between members of the family

lol funty stuff

It will be the netting, even goldfish have a memory of about a year and the intelligence to recognise different people and act accordingly, there's a few studies on the Internet about it. Give him a few months and he will come round.
I can agree w/ this, my fish definitely started recognizing the net as an "enemy" after a few times. Nowadays, they go into hiding before I even get the net in the water.

Its interesting to me because its a level of intelligence that my other fish (pilypterus and vieja heterospilus) do not disply and they have been netted just as much as the pearsei

Oscura heterospila if I remember correctly are the closest relative to the Cincelichthys sp, sharing a commen ancestry, so I would assume there of pretty much equal intelligence. Ime the older the fish the bigger the babies they are when it comes to moving them about also could just be different personality.
