ihave a 55g with african chiclids. my 6" bumble bee has what looks like some sort of fungus on and around his scales. he still is very active and eating. the rest of the fish have no signs of it at all. itried a fungus treatment and it made no difference. was thinking about salt treatment? the only thing that i can think of is the crawdad i fed them 2 weeks ago had something?

first before you do anything else, you need put that fish in a seprate tank or hospital tank then treat it in their..

well that was my next plan of attack but i dont know what to treat for? that fish will be very pissed in a 20g so i dont want to have him in there lomger than i have to

yah but you dont know what it is and it might be able to spread to your other fish and on top of that I wouldnt add chemicals to a tank with healthy fish in it unless its absolutely nessecary.

right. any ideas on what it might be? im stumped and they have never been sick before i have had all 6 for almost 2 years

not sure what does it look like and what color is it? and can you get any pic's? I am sure someone will know!

icould get pics if i new how to make this stupid computer do stuff. it looks like white velvety stuff around the edges of the scales. kinda looks like mouth fungus but not. obvioslby it aint on his mouth or fins

kinda fluffy?

If it is a thing, greyish, soft looking coating it could be body fungus (Saprolengia) or it could be a bacterial infection, if it is as bad as this picture go right to meds, other wise treat like ick with heat and salt, 2 tsp/gallon. it should start improving within a couple days. If it looks like the picture use a formalin-malachite green solution such as forma-green (follow directions carefully and do not use salt during treatment). If that doesn't work then try antibiotics.
