Last month i added a 2" Convict Cichild in to my tank with my 2" Common Oscar and i was hopeing they would grow up to gether and be great tank mates , at first it was a little scary the con was always chaseing the Oscar and i was afraid he would stress the oscar out so i built some caves for him to have. every thing was going grate then a week later the con just up and dies, last night when i was watching them the con looked like it was breathing hard but i had just fead them and i thought he had over eaten. the con and the Oscar have had a good diet of pelts and blood worms. they all so ate a few guppies i had in their about ten of them over the month. what could of happen to my con my oscar looks fine. do you think my oscars in trouble?

What size tank are they in? Unfortunatly the belief that raising fish together since "childhood" hoping they get along in "adulthood" is about as false as a pirates peg leg. With cichlids, you just need to give it time before one snaps on the other. If given enough tank space it could work out, but watch the Oscar because they grow pretty fast and can turn around and make a meal outa your Con.

Did the con show any physical damage? How big is the oscar?

By the time a 2" con ages by 1 year to a size of 4.5"ish, the oscar has already grown enough to make a meal out of the con.

you are so wrong, priates did have peg legs, if you had a fair amount of money they would be fitted well, often they would just tie a stick to their stump... please do not give false information to people when they are trying to get help... people like this make me sick.....

The idea is that the ped leg is a false leg. Not that they didnt have them...

It would help if you specified the size of the aquarium.

I am not surprised that the Convict bullied your oscar. The oscar would have eventually grown large and eaten the convict, however.
As for the disease; I am sorry, but I do not have sufficient data to recognize the source of your Convict's death. Any way, I am sorry for the death you have experienced.
