I have to start with that I have been keeping fish for many years. in the last 3 years I have moved from the community fish to the more aggressive ones. also I built a house and so now I don't have to go by anyone elses rules. Its my home now. I started by setting up a 50G tank right after I moved in. a friend gave it to me "on loan" until he got a place for it. my intentions where to move my tetras into it from there 20G tank still at my folks place. Well dad went on a trip and I no longer had a key so when they got home 7 days later I had a stinky mess to clean up and no fish. well after a week of debating what to do I was given a couple Balas and they where cool. different than what I had kept. way more active. I decided to go with a few cichlids. Being new to the game of cichlids I got a couple JD's and a pleco. the JD's I still have and have grown alot. so has the PLeco. with them in the tank it was really interesting to watch and I quite enjoyed it. I set up my 20G and got a couple BP's they grew quickly as well and soon moved up to the 50G. the BP's stood up for each other and stuck together. I still have them both. the JD's outgrew the Balas and one day decided to kill them much to my horror. it couldnt have happened at a worse time. I had about 5 kids watching my tank when the JD's took after the balas and made short work of them. being I liked the sharks I got a couple Irridecents to replace the Balas. they grew like weeds and the JD's left them alone. the 20G got stocked with Gold Tinfoils and silver dollars. a bought of ick killed them off. I have had really poor luck treating ick until I came on this sight and got some actual good advice. Thanks MFK. I got a 30G tank for free and so stocked it as well with JD's and other assorted cichlids. I was fine with it for a year then one day I got ick and lost most of them. I was getting frusterated. everytime I got ick I would lose half my fish. I tried all the different medications. now I just use heat and salt.

Just about 3 months ago I got a Reticulated Ray and he has been doing great. I had him in the 50G with everyone else and he is left alone. water changes have been done every 2 days 40% and all has been great. I am setting up a 150G tank for him and my aro. and planning on building a 500G.

today is a sad day for me. I have a Reticulated ray and he has been doing so well. he has been sharing a temporary home with some rather aggresive fish and today was his day to move into his new home. I got a 150G tank and built a stand as the one under it was scary to me. have been cycling the water and got the filtration all going well. transfered some of the filter media from the present tank to his new one and had some cons in the new tank just to be safe. everything has been great for a week and so today was the big move. first bad news. my buddy was over to help me (more to watch) and do to a bad series of events tripped and knocked a large glass ornament into a 80G tank I just got where the Cons where moving to. THE TANK CRACKED. I have been around hundreds of aquariums and had some rather close calls but I have never had a tank crack. it didnt leak but we quickly drained it moved the Cons into a rubbermade for now and went to move the ray. well he didnt like it and struck at me with his stinger but missed me. it got caught in the net and so I quickly moved him into a rubbermade I had ready for him and cut the net apart. he had a small chnk of the net stuck on his stinger and I tried to cut it away. when I went for the last cut he spooked and struck missing me but as I was holding the piece with a set of pliers to hold it steady while I cut the net it ripped it out. he went nuts in the tub and within about 5 min he was dead. I was so proud of him. here was his day and his new home. my GF is heartbroken even worse cause she picked him out and named him. The aro will not be moving today I dont want to add to a already bad day. he can last 1 or 2 more in there anyways now right.
