I have a 4foot tank and 1x Rena XP3 and 1internal Filter

the water is clear with no cloudyness, but it still smells any idea what can be causing the problems?

is there some sort of chemical that i can add to the water to sort it out or what does everyone suggest.?

:nilly:help before the g.f goes crazy an kills my fish

well, try running carbon to remove the smell. but i would search the tank, make sure everyone is alive and there are no dead fish trapped under anything. How often do you do waterchanges? and what are your parameters? you stated your water is clear, but that doesnt mean the water is good.

Another thing to check is your substrate. Do you have sand or gravel? When was the last time you vacuumed it? How thick is it? It could have funky gas pockets, or alot of trapped food, or a dead critter (fish or snail). Do you have any decorations that might trap food/waste? If any wood or objects have lots of texture, that's a possibility . . . .

it was some prawns that had got into / under neath a coconut cave thing an they were stinking

something so simpe yet such a horrible smell

At least you got it figured out and it was an easy find!

Better check your water parameters though. That could cause an ammonia spike.

The same thing happened to me before and after I vacuumed the substrate, the smell was gone once I flushed it down the toilet.
