Hi all really need help here.....i have about 12 chiclids in my 40 gallon tank all african (babies) but lately i hve noticed that 1 after another 2 of my chiclids die with out any prior notice meaning systoms they were moving fine all of asudden they started moving in circles and then they died with in 5 minutes .i cant share the actual water parameters because testing kit is broken lfs dosent have it right know,,last change that was done in tank was i changed 25 % water 4 days ago i really need help before any other dies .
thenk you all

change the water again ans clean thefilter or change i have cichlids to and sometime they willl kill them selfs from being chased put in some hideing places and they should be fine could of been deseased how long you have them did you just get them

how long have you had the tank set up? some african fry are very sensitive to chemicals in the water, and a 40 gallon tank can take up to a month or more to cycle, in my experience, depending on your methods...

hi i had them for over 2 months now i will try and change the water lets hope for the best//i also noticed there is little stray electric current in the water may be due to the filter do u think that can alsoo sause the problem thanks again

check the lights and the heater. one time i had a broken light that was sending electricity into the tank, but i caught it early before it caused a problem. if anything is sending an electric current in the water, take it out! good luck :)

well i dont have the heaters but i think the filter is problem tomorrow i will i change the filter

If your fish are dying I would like to think a sense of urgency would be called for.
Let us know how many fish you loose before you get a chance to work on it.

are you really asking if electrical current in the tank is a problem?
If you were not previously aware electricity sent through the bodies of most living things is indeed detrimental. Are you using a multimeter? Electrical current in the water can also be responsible for hole in the head disease.

Sounds to me like it's time to get back to the basics there can be so many things wrong I don't know where to start - Heater - tropical fish need warm water to survive 75-80 degrees ESP. Juvies and Fry. The bacterial colonies within the tank also build much faster in tropical water temps - 2 mo. in room temp might not have alot of build up of these nessasary colonies it could take 6 mo or longer. This also applies to water changes - cold water can kill off some of these colonies causing a constant re-cycle. Chlorine and chlorimine in tapwater can also kill these colonies and your fish it needs to be removed if present The only way to truely know if the bacterial filtration is working is thru a test kit.
Electricity in the water - How do you know? Did you get shocked??? If so you better start worring about your own safety and remove the plug from the source.
Further more it's time to remove the fish and give them back to were you got them.
Do your research - get a test kit - get a heater - get an adequite filter system - cycle the tank properly - slowly increase the rate of fish 2-3 a month - comeback and post some pics of a job done well and properly.

:)well to start with i am in india and it was night time so can't change the filter system or other devices though i throughly checked the filter wiring i came to kno about the current because i regularly check the water with slsctrical tester. now for the tank being cycled i looked into that my tank has been running for the last 3 years so i guess i can leave that option too. now room temp here is 32 degrees so the water temp is at constant 30 degree also checked on the thermometer. well that leaves me with the only option that the water that was changed was problematic.

second reason was filter wire was split so this early morning changed the water 80% then later went to market bought new filter installed it made mpodifications in the old one tested again is fine now .....

i lost 2 fishes that i earlier lost and 1 more dolphin that jumped out as i forgot to replace the cover in all the commotion.

anyways guys thank you so much for the support and advice that you all gave.//:)
