Anybody else work with leather?
btw HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Leathercrafting is sort of a family hobby. i like to do it and wanted to mix figure carving, with fish somehow and since my fish journal was running out of space the was the ideal project. i designed it and thought of the idea, fashioning it from a clutch purse but the end result wont be similar.it is 8 1/2 inches long and when folded is about 3 inches wide (forgot the exact measurements. ) when the book opens up ther will be a drawing pad and a writing pad. i will post updates but for sure i wont be done until the 6th and possibly longer...
here is the picture i used for the design, courtesy of MARVIN BAKER
here is the leather with the peacock bass unbeveled but cut with a swivel knife.
a close up of the bass
the bass after being bevelled and cut.
apistogramma gibbiceps completed
the uncompleted pike cichlid, the bevelling is unfinished.
apistogramma paucisquamis completed
this is roughly what the end product will look like when folded
all of them completed on the leather this is what it looks like unfolded
the last is after it being stained. i would have prefered it lighter but it looks fairly nice.
To finish i need to sow, paint, cut the pockets, stamp, put the snaps in and put the leather finish on.
courtesy of the tandy leathercraft company for supplying their high quality equipment at great prices!!!
