First time I've managed to get a good picture of him since I got him. growing lots and being peaceful and good at clearing algae they truly are an amazing fish. He lately seems to hang around my Nicaraguensis and Geo as they sift through the sand he seems to follow them around and join in.

Nice. I have wanted one for a long time. Nice salvini as well.

thanks JK, if you come across one you should buy one, they don't bother my other fish and none of my fish view it as a target, they simply ignore it. Even my old RD used to completely ignore this fish. they are also the best algae eater I've ever seen

I'm liking that fish more and more because of the people on here who keep them such as yourself and mentioning how well they eat algae, just a question for you though, don't these grow very big?

I would but they have been known to eat fry from what I have read. Can't risk that with my festae.

They grow to around 14"+ from what I've read and experienced they are very very slow growers. I'm not worried about the size because I have 3feet of width, I could keep a giant gourami in there lol.
They do definately eat tonnes of algae they are always browsing nonstop so a very active fish, their lips seem to be completely flexible too, if they rasp at say a plastic plant stem, their lips will mold around it sideways and it looks pretty cool.

Just checked yeah its, 14" and most sites display 60" x 24" x 24" as the tank size minimum. Im at 60" x 24" x 36"

Ive seen them at 16+ inches. Nice ff you have there. Very efficient algae cleaners

I'm pretty sure S. insignis (which is what yours appears to be) are capable of reaching at least 20". S. taeniurus supposedly stay smaller, though.

Oh I'm not implying that it'd outgrow your tank or grow to large for your tank because it surely won't...I was just wondering how big they get, I didn't mean nothing by what I said strato lol

No clownknife I knew what you meant sometimes I word things weird and peopel think I mean something different dont worry.

Yeah I knew they get big but they are pretty slow growers you could always rehome one if it outgrew your tank.
