I too have a gar and only feed em rosies and krill i heard that gold fish are more likely to give illnesses and are very fatty if giving on a regular basis

well it's just that goldfish have enzymes that destroy vitamin B and thus is unhealthy for a staple diet, amongst other reasons, fatty, drop lots of scales etc

to add a few more things...disease and parasites...need we go on. goldfish just have a very low nutritional value in general. unless they are quarentined and fed a good nutritional diet. which most people are too lazy to do.

the best thing to do is to get them on a high quality pellet or other prepared food. also feed them fresh fish fillet, raw shrimp, smelt, or most other fish with white meat. avoid foods like salmon, tuna, etc...

couldn't agree more. i'm gonna start on my 8" spotteds the next time i go down to my LFS
 
It took my 10" florida so long to finnaly eat frozen...hes been eating frozen for a couple months now and the other day I went to the LFS and decided to try pellets and suprisingly he loves them! (make sure there floating)
