Hi all,

Looking for some help here , I have my baby flowerhorn about 2moths now, LFS mentions a red Dragon flowerhorn.

Please see from Photos attached

When day1 I got he or she, it showed very deep colour and dark striped ,I think because of the stress of the new environment

It shows always looking for food and looks very active as normal

Then I found it colour get changing to lighter day by day and today I look at this flowerhorn ,
It shows very very peral

Is it normal??? It seems still healthy and eat very well. Please give me some advise

Seems fine...they will transition and change color as they grow. The white substrate you have is probably causing it to be lighter as well. Try a darker substrate or make sure there is plenty of shrimp or krill in their diet to enhance the red coloration

Agreed and appears red dragon

Thanks! Does it mean if I change to bare bottom will be better to get the colour come out ?
The bare bottom is black
Is that fine ??
I am feeding Hikari bio gold and freeze dried blood worm at the moment
Any other suggestions??

The best color substrate/background for your flowerhorn is gonna be red and blue.

Adding a little krill can't hurt

They tend to fade out when in lighter substrate...actually a lot of fish do. Darker or natural substrate will bring out the best colors. Not sure what a bare bottom looks like to a fish...likely they just see their reflection. That being said, I've seen and raised a lot of great looking fish in barebottom and that's my preference.

Try barebottom for now and focus on giving the fish good food and water and give it time to grow out. Flowerhorn only get better with time. Then you can decide whether you want to add darker substrate or mess with other parameters. But definitely remove that pure white gravel. At least that's what I'd do.

Still don't know male or female yet?
Any idea how to see their gender?
