So I had my flowerhorn up stairs in our bed room in a 33 gallon as a grow out. He was aggressive, interactive, and everything else I wanted him to be.

One day for no apparent reason it was like he had seen a sush knife as he wigged out. Would not come out of the top corner of the tank and would visibly splash when anybody came near him. In fear...

I thought perhaps the envrinment was causing himt o wig out. so moved him to his own 75 in the basement. It has been a week now and he is still not showing any signs of calming down. I am baffled...Anybody have any suggestions?

now that he's in the 75, have you considered some other fish? maybe some other cichlids?

i had a firemouth who went from a community tank (fine) to a solo tank and he went nutso like you described for a couple of months. moved back with tankmates and all was good again. tripped hard during feeding lol.

i know firemouth is hardly a fh, which will likely thrash tankmates, but just a suggestion.

No idea what you mean by that...

I am treating with salt and melafix. Parasites don't seem evident, but I will try anythign at this point.

Rather than dithers I am going to try targets. Perhaps a pair of cons or something. He was in with Giant danios and this did not help. Thanks for the help

Day one with a pair of small cons...he does not fear them, but still hides in the corner and splashes when you come near the tank. I sweat this stupid fish has night terrors..

I even added some dark background and a couple of ornaments.

this fish is so close to carpet surfing I can't tell you::irked:

Mine was doing the same thing. I used about a table spoon of salt for every five gallons of water and he seemed to calm down after 4-5 days.

Good Luck!

Salt is a good suggestion, try adjusting the temp as well. Good luck!
