I got this female (laid eggs at my lfs) about a month ago. I think she has really nice color. Cant tell but she has a decent amount of really dark purple.

Im not saying its the best fish ever, I like her... But my photos dont do it justice. Why loose the black gravel? To help bring out color? I agree w/ midasman i thought blk gravel was cool in the tank up untill i got into flowerhorn I switched to natural and colors and colorful backdrops and it gives the fish confidence

you already have a blue background tank so thats a def plus for fhs.
ok so i added pink gravel (before i read the last post) Also started feeding frozen blood worms, she loves these. im getting an improvement in color
She looks much better. Keep up the good work. Varied diet is the key to a good looking/healthy fish and it looks like you're on the right track with everything else.
