My fronts had been fighting really bad lately as well. I have growing juvies in the 4 or 5 inch range . I had resorted to moving fish out cause of aggression. Then i had some baby fronts come in and needed another grow out tank for them, i put all my haps and peaccocks in with my fronts and noticed the extra activity in the tank has distracted the fronts drasticly. Not nearly the level of aggression there was before i put alot of fish in the 135 six foot tank. I have all young fish , so they are not too big yet , not overcrowded like they might be at full size. I have the following fish in there right now.
5 juvie burundi
2 blue dolphin
1 peaceful mbuna
1 brichardi
Added into the tank temporarily:
Male and female venustus
Male and female borleyi
Male and female red empress
1 malawi eyebiter
3 male peacocks
Right now the largest fish is the venustus (6 inches both male and female) and the other fish are all from 3-5 inches total lenghth.
I was really suprised how these other fish do not really bother the fronts yet. I thought they would be all over the fronts and shredding fins etc.. They really do just ignore them completly. I have the feeling i am just really lucky. I have heard other people say they had very bad luck doing this. So far they have been in there over a week now, plus i have to admit these fish were all raised together with the fronts when all fish were 1 inch babies then moved when they were about 3 inches to their own tank. Maybe they remember them and thats why they dont fight ?
