hey,
i dont normally come around here cos i am a hardcore member of aqauria central, but it keeps going down and im getting sick of it! You will be seeing me around here alot more often from now on!
Anyways, i recently picked up a 15 gallon tank (2 foot) from hard garbage and got a reflector at the swap meet today for $10. I think i am going to turn it into a guppy fry rearing tank, i will buy this air pump -- http://www.theaquariumshop.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=163&name=Aqua+One+Precision+Air+Pump+SR-2500 this sponge filter,---- http://www.theaquariumshop.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=874&name="Bichung"+Mini+Filter and this heater,----- http://www.theaquariumshop.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=178&name=Aqua+One+Glass+Heater+55watt . the tank is now sitting there full of water with the reflector running with a few water boatmen swimming around in it.
it has no substrate or anything, is their any suggestons that you can give me in the choice of products, or should i put a substate in there for the fry.

thanks,
gumby

In a fry raising tank I would keep the bare bottom. Its much easier to keep clean and for fry to find food on the bottom.I also like to use a large oversized sponge filter so they can be fed often without worry of fouling the tank

Glad to see you over here. I would go with no substrate also.

i have a lot of javamoss in my 90gal will that do for em to hang around in?
does anyone have anything to say about my order?
thanks,
gumby

Hiya gumby, the equipment you are getting is fine and bare bottom is easiest, I have used plastic grass, bunches or riccia, or bunches of elodea for structure (the fry seem to like it). The plastic grass square can be pulled out and washed as needed, it is also a good spawning mat if the water only covers it by 3-4 inches and saves a lot of newborn fry. I like the 3" height.
