but why don't people use glass lids?? I never had a fish jump out in any of my tanks but I always hear of people on here that have had fish jump out

Forreal for people reading this thread put a lid with no gaps your heater works less, water wont evap and of course you wont have any fish jump out on you! Sorry you had to learn your lesson the hard way bud.
