cleaned my filter today was really bad.it was like mud.it was cleaned six months ago.maybe thats why my nitrates were high.going to start cleaning it every three months as my fish are getting bigger.View attachment 994540View attachment 994541View attachment 994542

it was ok when my fish were baby.now they got bigger i need to do it more.the tank is 5x2x2 150 gallons.22inch silver arowana,12inch flag tail.10inch oscar.13inch peacock bass and 8inch eartheater had these since 2inch now 12 months later there beast.total of five fish.i do 50% water change every week.yes i know i need a bigger tank getting one soon.

Haha in elemantary school i didnt change the filter in my 10 g community tankfor 2 years and thats what it looked like

That looks just about right. I am guilty of not cleaning my canister every 2-3 months. One time I went 8 months before servicing my filter. I noticed poos was coming out of the return pipe so I had to change it ASAP.

Never seen a filter that dirty lol. Maybe do every 1-2 months and see what it looks like when you open it up!

Looks like you need more frequent maintenance. Monthly filter cleaning and bi weekly water changes.
