Last night i came come around 130am and both of my gars(florida Gar/Spotted Gar) were Okay! This morning I see my the 13inch on its back:( Its still breathing and moving its fins and looks like it wants to swim but it cant. I tried moving him around with the net to flip him over and get to swim but he just falls right back down on its back. The other Gar is doing just fine and so are my other cichlids, the only thing i can think of is i recently bought a electric catfish about 4 inch and maybe just maybe it shocked the gar and possibly paralyzed the gar? but i cant see that happening bc the catfish is too dam small to do that to the GAR:confused:
can someone please give me their input and help me out, i dont have a another tank to put him in so that out the question. thank you

if everything else seems to be working on the gar it seems somethings wrong with the swim bladder. but i have no idea how to fix that. i guess just try to keep him upright till it eather fixes or you get some help. good luck

no, i dont say its the reason but it will kill most of your fish in future. aout your gar, sounds like he has swimm bladder issues. there is not much you can do. maybe put him in a tank with very low water level, so he stands in his right position

What are your water params? Irregular Swim bladders can be a result of stress or many things. Hard to say what it is at the moment.

How often do you wc?

There are a number of possibilities for the cause of the gar's problem, but you must remove the cichlids and the electric catfish for sure as they are unacceptable tankmates for gars (especially the catfish).

Also, why in the world would you put an electric catfish with any tankmates? The potential for it harming its tankmates is pretty substantial considering that it uses electricity to defend itself as well as locate, hunt, & kill its prey.

Gar is dead!!! He was actually 15 inches, thanx for all the responses i appreciate it!! as for the catfish, ill get rid of him once he gets alittle bigger but i bought him out of pure impulse(stupid) thanx again!
