Never even hit the top of the glass before to my knowledge. My last video of him a couple days ago. He was a bully but never hurt any of the others.

Aww I'm sorry. Was it the opening between the glass and filter?

I don't really know! He was found 3 feet in front of the tank and a bit to the right. I can't imagine him getting that heavy glass up, so it must have been thru the rear. There is only a 4"x1.5" gap back there between a HOB and an outflow. If he went thru that, he would have had to flop around 5 feet from the back and to the side, and then out front.
I suppose he could have landed on the top glass and flopped off the front. This is more likely the more I think about it. Would never have imagined he could fit through there.

He was a cool beast. :(

My jag jumped 8 feet across the room. Cichlids really are amazing jumpers :rip

Thanks for condolences. Have never been this upset over a fish loss. He was the fish I was most proud of. On the bright side the other fish seem less stressed and I don't have to get the larger tank I was planning right yet. :/

Now to seal up that tank so it doesn't happen again. I don't think I'll replace him with another Aequidens. I'd get a Melanaru or syn, but I think a 300G would be warranted. Current tank inhabitants: Oscar, JD, Firemouth, Salvini, Texas, and Krib... and L-200 and L-205 plecs. That's probably enough. Maybe a Midas/Devil until he needs his own tank? He would then go into a 75G.
