Started this project with this pair. Borrowed Golden Monkey with a female kkp.

The pair created this female. She was so aggressive as a fry/juvie, I thought she was a male.

I tried the young female with this golden monkey but unsuccessful due to his aggressive nature. I also tried him with a brilliant female kkp that is not related to the first one. He does not get along with any tank mates. I'd like to find the right female that can tame him or try again when he matures.

Just picked up a new faded kamfa with a decent kok...may improve in time. What I like about this guy are the pearling on its kok and gold undertone. Both are about 5 inches. She was very aggressive initially (tore out some scales off him) so I threw her in with the aggressive golden monkey. Watched her get chased around for about 15 minutes then put her back with the new faded kamfa. This method put her in her place and calmed her down nicely. The pair now gets along nicely and tubes are starting to drop after 2 days together. She's never laid any eggs and not sure if he's fertile so we'll see what happens.

cool project!

keep us updated!

WOW. Very cool project indeed!!! My favorite part is how you threw her in with the other insanely aggressive male just to put her in her place, I was laughing out loud when I read that. The best part is that by doing that it helped pair her to the less aggressive male. Awesome fish psychology Fisheatfish!!!! By the way both of those males have AMAZING coloring and pearling. I can't even decide which one I like more. AWESOME FISH and AWESOME BREEDING projects. Keep us updated!

Amusing but it works. It's another story trying to tame an aggressive male. What has worked for me was stressing out the aggressor a bit by netting him/her or even taking it out of water for a moment then putting it right back. These methods help me pair them up quicker than the traditional divider method. That overly aggressive male I can't figure out...yet.

I'd like to see more distinguished pearls from this pair then focus on more red. But first thing's...fertility.

We have eggs! But "He laid the eggs?" I know I just picked up this one about a week ago but #@*^? It was sold to me as a male but definitely not disappointed because she is gorgeous. With that kok & fins way out, looked male to me. Now I'm wondering if the other one which I thought was the female will turn out to be a male (remember, I initially thought it was a male when I bred it)...hope its a male cuz someone's gotta fertilize the eggs.

If you take a good look at the pics, their breeding tubes, both appear female now, difference is the one without the pronounced kok (last 2 pics) has a shorter tube sticking out. I know the difference when venting them but I'm so confused at the moment. Been breeding these guys for about 8 yrs now and I've had 2 females pair up before and one laid eggs so I know this could happen. There might be some definite answers in 2 days. Stay tuned....

No luck...can't expect 2 ladies to do a man's job. Lol! Now, in search of a fertile, pearly, koky male for the ladies. Got my eye on one already.
