Unlike the majority of threads on this forum, i decided to wait until this project was completed before posting.

Foolishliy, I forgot to get pics of the pond before, so you will have to make do with the google maps overview of the site!

PondOriginal.JPG

You can see the pond area in the middle right of the pic. The curved shape. The brown around the outside is the paving, and the dark bit is the actual water. At its widest, it was about 2 feet wide.

The original section, on the left was a pre-mould installed by my Grandad back in the late 50's (we think), which was extended in to curn around towards the house in the late 80's.

There have been large Koi in this pond for many years, and the biggest is about 20 inches. Obviously, this long narrow pond was not great for fish od this size.

My father owns a Landscape gardening firm, and as a result, we have access to materials, equipment, supplier discounts, and manpower! The firm was originally setup by my dad, with a big loan from my Grandad. Although he is no longer with us, he loved his fish, and my Gran wanted them to have a nice comfy home...

After an initial planning phase, we knew we wanted to use the whole space avaialble, and GO BIG.

So, in came the diggers...
Pond1.JPG

You can almost see the original outline of one side here, along under the tree, and along the wall at the back. Essentially a thin upside-down "L" shape.

Pond2.JPG

More digging.. This was going to be deep!

Pond3.JPG

Another view, mid digging!

Pond4.JPG

Some of the initial framing and we have some idea of the final shape.

Pond5.JPG

Working out the shape/lengths required for the walkway.

Pond6.JPG

We took the edge as close to the wall foundations as possible to maximise volume.

Pond7.JPG

More working out of dimensions, and some of the base for the decking, which will over-hang some of the pond. Again to maximise water volume.

Pond8.JPG

Slightly different angle. Might give some scale, with the arm in the pic.

Pond9.JPG

View from the terrace.

Pond10.JPG

Another view from the terrace, giving some idea of scale, with the chap in a shallow area!

Pond11.JPG

Sinking the liner, with my Gran inspecting proceedings!

Pond12.JPG

Slightly different angle. My nan wanted the duck in as the first addtion! Note the Bridge metalwork in the background!

Pond13.JPG

Voila - finished product.
Decking install, pump in, and the lighting in. The water-fall was part of the original pond, and is the return from the UV/canister filter system.

Pond14.JPG

Close up of the bridge/walkway

Pond15.JPG

Another view.

Pond16.JPG

From the end...

Pond17.JPG

Some of the plantings. All of the day to day garden care, hedge trimming, and sculpting is done by my Gran, who is in her 80s! The only exception is the mowing.

You can see her alien hedge, named "Wotsit" on the right hand side. His antenna pointing out over the pond!

Finally.. The view from the lounge window in the evenings.

Pond20.jpg

I can vouch for its depth. I was in there re-laying airlines when some broke loose the other day. I had to get fully sumerged to reach the bottom with my hands, and lay stones on the lines to keep them in place!

Cheers guys :) I do love sitting watching it when I am over there.

Yup, one is about 20 inches, a couple of 16 inchers (one of which is a Ghost Koi from an indoor tank I had about a decade ago, maybe more!), and number (8 or so) of smaller ones, ranging from 6inches+
