I picked this guy up off craigslist also as a "blue acara" he was a freebie , he is also currently on stand-by while i finish the plumbing on my 240 gallon.

Basically i was quite sure it was a male then i started watching some youtube vids and I noticed mine seems to be missing the "hump" on his head now before i source out a mate i thought i would confirm that he is in fact a he and that the seller/donator was wrong and what my fish is is actually a gt which i am quite sure of .

please avoid comments regarding tank size as I said before he is destined to live in a 240 but I have to get my butt in gear and get my plumbing finished

so is he a he , and to confirm it is infact a gt and not a blue acara
any thoughts input advice are welcome

Can you provide a picture with light? I am confident that is a male, but he is lacking the luster which normally light provides. Also, that is definitely a green terror, and not a blue acara! I hope this helps! :)

There you go, now it is looking like a badass green terror! Beautiful looking male, now I know for certain it is a male lol! :) Really though, great looking male! I love it when someone says that it is a blue acara, only to discover it is a green terror! The same situation happened to me one time lol! ;)

Additionally, it is fairly rare for a female to attain that size in the aquarium, but I suppose this is still possible when considering potential genetics and environmental factors.

i was fairly certain of the gt and of him being a male however on the google images some of the same sized gt males had big humps so then i started questioning thing and we ended up here,i get my tank done <tues> so he will have a much nicer home very soon. 8 x 2 x 2 , and so far his only tank mate is an 18 inch fire eel,

I forgot to mention that male green terrors do not always develops humps; this is mainly a genetic factor and somewhat environmental influence. The idea that all males develop the nuchal hump is a distorted misconception with newbies to green terrors or some people are just naive about the subject because not all of them develop the nuchal hump, and the extent of the ones that do can vary considerably. I mean there is another recent thread of a quite younger and smaller green terror male and he is already exhibiting the nuchal hump; some develop it later in life as the fish matures, but many male green terrors never develop the nuchal hump. I hope this helps. ;)

Yeah, and some of the non-credible sources on the Internet are misleading. :) the new tank sounds cool, you should post some pictures when you get everything ready!
