I'm at a loss, really and truly confused by all of this.

Here is what I know:
- tank temp 77-78
- 2 feedings per day of mixed foods. nls 2mm pellet and northfin veggie pellet and cichlid pellet. also feeding hikari algae disc 11mm or something like that. they get soft very quickly and Kai loves them.
- nitrates are mainly kept under 5ppm with a weekly large water change.
- he has had this issue his whole life, or at least since I have had him. Sometimes it seems worse and other times it seems like its gone.
- he eats well, shows awesome coloration and personality and remains active all day long. no heavy breathing no pitting or holes developing in his head, no visual parasites on his skin, eyes are very clear, very responsive with me and his surrounding. he doesn't do and flashing or scratching and he never hides like sick fish tend to do.

The only thing that would indicate something is wrong is his feces which I am starting to wonder if he just has a overly sensitive stomach. Is this a thing with fish? I keep checking his poops recently under a scope and can't find a single thing that looks out of place. nothing moving that for sure, no worm like shapes or any small parasites, literally nothing but organics.

For those who are not aware of some of his history with me I will try and recap.

I got him at 2" back in oct 2016 and he is now over 7". He hurt himself once on a twig near his eye and shortly after developed what I thought was a small pit in his forehead. I am still not sure what it is but part of my thinks is a sensory pit. it has been the same size for 8-9 months and nothing else has developed since. all his other sensory pits look completely normal too. During that time I treated him with metro + focuse and food, also tried using prazipro for internal parasites.

I then bought a microscope and discovered he had worms, I treated with levamisole and wiped them all out over 2 treatments. I literally saw the worms alive in his feces to dead to gone. he has had clean feces now for several months but still has these clear / white poops the odd time. sometimes its a daily thing and other times its like once a month.

I also did a meth blue dip a few times during the metro treatment to ensure no infection / bacteria would form, was mostly precautionary.

I am looking for any feedback / advice that might help. I am more then willing to provide as much information / pictures that I can. Maybe this is something I can't resolve ever?!?!?!

You're probably worrying too much. Have you experimented with changing his diet to see what effect that has? As a last resort you could always look for a vet.

Also, 5 ppm nitrate is unnecessary even for salmon fry. The water changes are probably more stressful. It takes thousands of mg/L nitrate to harm an adult cichlid.

I could be wrong, but I’ll put this out there. My gts have lightish poo after I put zucchini in or after having algae tabs. I can see the difference from when they poo after having their cichlid sticks and when they eat veggies. Perhaps that’s why?

I definitely see a color change with different foods but I don't think that this is it. I am.going to try and keep him on only the nls pellet for a bit and see if that helps. Maybe too much veggie or something from his diet.

It couldn’t hurt to try that. You take very good care of him, so as long as he is eating, growing, and acting normal I wouldn’t worry too much.

He looks obese. Have you tried putting him on a diet of less feedings per week? Like 1 feeding every other day? Currently what you are feeding sounds like a lot of food being fed everyday.

Yeah so I took your advice rocksor

I believe it's helping a lot too. I cut back his feeding alot and behold clearish poops stopped and back to normal.

He belly did look full all the time and I did suspect I still was overfeeding even though I cut already once before.

I am going to continue to slow down on the feeding till I find the right balance.

I also fed him some.peas and spinach one day to help with constipation which I felt was due to overfeeding. He loves peas!

He is such a cute begged I have a hard time resisting feeding him :(
