Just a quick question...I noticed the other day that my GT's tail is starting to get tiny splits. He's about 5" and about 5 months old. I've seen some with splits, but I don't know if it's normal or maybe something's wrong. Thanks.

tetras can get a bit nippy if they were there originally

It is tough to tell why with out more info. If you rule out tank mates then do a 50% water change. Check your Ph to make sure it’s not too high/low and the rest of the parameters A. N. N., hardness ect. GTs accept a pretty wide range of water conditions 6.5 to 7.5Ph and soft to hard just make sure everything else is good and keep up with the weekly water changes, the fins should heal. You could add some Novaqua to the water at each water change also.

yeah give picture and we would be able to tell better. what size is the tank? sounds to me though that it is probably the tetras IME if they arent kept in a large enough school they will nip other tankmates, test water and if everything else checks out i would go and get at least 3 more tetras though more would be better, with only 2 they aren't going to school properly and will be more prone to getting eaten by the GT as well

I can only test the basics. My ph is 7.4 to 7.6 and nitrates are between 5 and 10 ppm, ammonia and nitrites are 0. I have a 68 gallon setup with a sump and do 50% water changes every two weeks. Here's some pics.

By the way, the tetras and the loach came in after the gt. The loach hides when the lights go out and the tetras come out. The tetras used to be out all the time and for the last month or so they've hiding during the day and come out when the moon lights kick on.
