Cool dude. How big is he?

I keep mine in a planted tank. They are messy though in my opinion so I went with Java Fern onto bogwood so the base of the tank could stay reasonably free and easy to rescape if needed ie the plants all come out on the wood. Barring one Vallis plant this is my philosophy.

I always like to see Gulpers though in scaped tanks rather than bare tanks. Will get some pics up of mine too.

Although gaining in popularity, there are still only a few Gulper keepers so we need to share experience as literally nothing is written about them in any books etc.

He's only about 6 inches. and yeah they really are messy, but i planted with swords, vallisneria and jfern on bogwood as well. and yeah, i cant find them in any book. what filters do you have? i have an aqueon 55 with chemipure elite and purigen and a fluval u4 with a venturi attachment

Mine are about 7.5".

I have them in a 390L tank.

Filter is: Eheim 2080 and a SunSun 12,000 L/H Wavemaker to blow crap around. Filter is filled with Eheim Mech, Eheim Substrat Pro, Filter Floss and bio sponge. It is a great filter for the job as it has a prefilter that captures a lot of the major junk before it gets into the main cannister.

ps. all those black things in the sand leaving the trails are snails. I have always had them in my tanks to stir up the substrate.

i just saw a guy give two of these away for free to a LFS said they were called fat cat fish. he wanted to take down his tank so he just gave them to him in a bucket and left. the employee took them home and didnt even tell the boss. i figured it was something rare. i had never seen them before then. and this was my second time. and now i want some lol how much do they run. i have a couple of LFS that claim they can get anything that is legal i might just see if they could find me some of these guys.

I <3 gulpers!!! They aren't on my must-have list, they're on my will-have list.

I highly recommend them to anyone. they're so fun and relatively easy to keep. now if i can just figure out how to breed them...
