ever since i put him in his 4 foot tank he still wont eat. nor does he swim

he just stays in his hide

is there anything i can do to get him eating again? i made a blackwater tank for him

i think our tap water wayyy to hard no matter what i do still the water is not acidic

i bought a ro unit so maybe ill fill half his tank water w ro??

I just want him eating again

he could be eating small fish guppies are in his tank but he wont eat big fish like he use to

he wont eat earth worm either

Just wait it out as it’ll eventually eat and remove the hiding spots.

Even if the water isn’t black water it should be ok. Be careful with feeders as they can carry disease and hope ur fish isn’t sick.

Have u been checking ur water?

*****How long has it been in the new tank?

he just stays in his hide
*****That's normal for it to do for half the time.

*****Instead of guessing, just measure the hardness. API sells two liquid tests GH and KH. They are quite affordable. What do you do to make the water acidic? Messing with the water hardness is very non-trivial. You may be producing large swings in water parameters that would sicken any fish.

*****I would start doing it but carefully, replacing 5%-10% of tank water daily by RO water mixed with your usual tap water (dechlorified of course). The ratio of RO to tap needs to be decided based on the GH and KH tests. So in about a month, your tank water would consist of pretty much the new RO+tap mix. It is crucial to maintain the ratio of the RO+tap mix consistent to keep the fish happy and healthy.

I just want him eating again
*****Mine fast sometimes of their own volition for a few weeks. They can go for a few months without harm, I believe. koltsixx koltsixx reported it.

*****That may or may not explain the whole thing. If it takes guppies, it may not want any prepared foods. Or it might have gotten sickened by the guppies via pathogen transfer.

he wont eat earth worm either
*****Live? That'd mean he is not well, likely.

my african peacocks breed like rats, one is always holding, my labs were the same. I got rid of all female labs because of it. Is it the water kh gh perfect for them? my tap water use to have 7ph now it must have skyrocketed which is why i noticed my peacocks look better and wont stop breeding. But gulper is probably a wild caught fish. In this sort of water i dont think he would last that long. I have had him more than a year now i think. As he gets to be an adult I am sure he is going to need soft water, thats why i got the ro. I am hoping he lives really long. He is my fave fish by far.

oh sorry i change his water once a week around 30 percent? Now he is in a tank by himself 70 long. With just some livebearers. I have 4 sponge filters in there. Plus lots of plants, sea chem florite sand and too much drift wood. Also peat in bags. Almond leaves. Sorry 3 of them are sponge filters the other is full of peat. The big corner made from plastic. Can carbon make water hard?

new tank has been a couple of months or more? He left his 40 gallon in the summer. Its not really a new tank it was established but i changed it and mended it for him. In the 40 i would catch him swimming doing his circles he stopped doing that. He is about 8 or 9 inch.

When i did a test kit is when i posted this because i freaked out over the PH GH And KH

the rest is fine.
