Hey everyone not sure if this is the right thread but my brand new heater recently popped like the top popped right off and this black liquid oozed into my water like a tar coating the top of the water it was floating didint turn the water black though luckly the 6 giant dianos and 1 convict cichlid were tough enough to survive this random toxin but now my question is 1.) how long should i wait to put fish into the tank now the 6 giant dianos are still alive and doing well in it and so is the convict cichlid but i started up this 75 gal for my 2 lrg tinfoil barbs and my lrg irridescent shark i dont want to put them in there and have them die cause the water is poisonius to them i can keep dooing massive water changes but how many should i do before i can put those guys in there no worries though i will be removing the convict cichlid when i tranfer over the other 3. 2.) question is i still need a heater to heat my water i paid 80 bucks for this heater do you think the petstore will reinburst me for this heater or should i call the company who made it i believe it was marineland any suggestions on both questions would be awesome thanks in advance

see the pet store and i'd say call the main company and tell them what happened as they are at fault and can tell u if the stuff is super toxic and what not...so experts should be along shortly good luck!!!

Again? This just happened a month ago to another member. Black ooze and everything. What brand was it? Marineland you think?

After several large water changes, some fresh carbon and at least a week, things should be alright to add fish. Watch the surface of the tank for oil slicks as a rough gauge of cleanliness.

oh okay im going to do a major water change today and give it a couple days too the fish thaat are in the tank now are doing fine the water is just alil cloudy but i just think is cause its still a new tank been running for about a month now i believe
