In may of this year, I received 2 rays from a buddy, 16" Henlei and 13" Marble.

Both were wild caught, the henlei has been in captivity longer than the marble by 6 months approximately.

Both were in the same tank with the previous owner.

Got them both, put them both in a same QT Tank. I performed a full prazi treatment for 6 weeks.

6 weeks later, I moved them both in the big tank.

They both eat like any active ray should, but for some reason I can't seem to add any weight on the Henlei. The henlei eats more than the marble or the leo hybrid but he's the skinniest. His pelvic bones are showing constantly, no matter how much he eats.

The henlei is the most aggresive eater out of all the rays.

I have been feeding him twice a day with shrimp, smelt and nightcrawlers for dessert.

The marble is gaining a lot of weight and have lesser appetite. Is it possible to have a parasite that is NOT contagious ? meaning one ray can have it but the others fish in the tank are un-affected ?

My question is, is there a specific parasite that can withstand the effectiveness of prazi ? tape worm perhaps ?
How do I treat that ? Panacur ?

Thanks in advance

Stan

Wow....Wish i could help buddy, im sure some1 will on here for sure. I had a worm in my arowana and i actuaally seen it coming out of his mouth...i caught him, pulled the worm out, and like a light switch he started gaining weight and growing.... none of my other tankmates were affected by it... it was very weird but thats what i think that was bc he would eat and eat just like my other aro, and they were bought at the same time and same size but the other aro was getting twice the size as the other so i knew something was wrong....

Some1 help him i know ya will! goodluck

Best thing to do is get a poo sample and put it under a microscope. I only have experience with injecting prazi into night crawlers to kill internal parasites. Zoodiver would be the guy to get ahold of if it is internal. A microscope is really the only way to find out.

^what he said^

zoodiver and oddball helped me alot w my parasite problem a while ago

There are parasites like nematodes, I believe, that do not respond to prazi. If the poop is stringy you probably still have a parasite. I got a special mixture from my vet to help my ray with nematodes. There is a Jungle Labs Anti-Parasite Medicated Fish Food that kills a wider range of parasites than prazi(actually it also has prazi in it). The problem would be dosing. Maybr others have experience with this.

The problem is that I have over 30 fish in the tank, it's hard to isolate which poop is which.

Short of me sitting for 24 hours and watch the henlei poop come out of him, it's really hard to do that.

I do have a microscope that I used to diagnose cuts, open wound and bacterial all the time. It's just hard to get the sample LOL

I can move him to a tank by himself, but at this moment the 75 gallon QT tank is occupied.
I do have some Jungle Parasite Medicated Food that I can feed him, I fed them to the bass and feeder goldfish before.

Like most of you, my problem is dosing directly on food. I am not sure what dosage I need to give him.

no more meds at all.6 weeks is way too long to prazi your rays for man.thats probably why they wont put weight on.maybe did something to their metabolism??feed them as much as they can eat for 6 weeks now and see what happens.keep water pristine and just power feed the heck of of these rays and they will be fine.sometimes parasites dont need to be treated.infact alot of fish carry parasites their whole life.dont worry about parasites until the rays stop eating than you can worry.

"6 weeks" i think you are lucky you didnt kill your rays

Kill rays from 6 weeks of Prazi?

You wait till the ray quits eating to worry you're gonna be too late.

Stan- I've had one with similar symptoms that I lost. None of the other rays in the tank ever even lost thier appetite.
