Yes I know I need a bigger tank. It was discontinued at Petsmart and I've always wanted hermit crabs. So I just got it, believe me a 10 gallon with another hermie friend will happen. :)

There is more sand in it now, they seem to like to like to dig through the sand. The second pic is of Lazy. That was the only time I've seen it ever doing something. Most time it's not out or will go back in it's shell when I come close.

The third is Hermlet. I take him out often and let him walk on my hands. Very friendly, he would love a bigger tank.

That's about it. :grinno:

Thanks guys, lol. I just got home and I walked to their cage and the dang water sponge was on top of the coconut house. Weird creatures.

I personally must confess that I too have a soft spot for hermis, they are very cool critters to keep. Dont forget you need a small salt water basin in a adicion to the fresh water one and both must be renewed EVERY day(any amonia in the water and they are gone), untill they are completly established avoid all handling because they may apear tame but your actually stressing them, I would avoid a hexagonal tank unless its a large one as they need space to move around, create more hidding places and put more sligthly moist sand untill the sand depth is like half a food. Good luck with them! Here people had bad luck with those guys, thats whats holding me from trying...the inicial die off can be high, they are very badly handled in the trafic but once they are established they are very hardy critters, as long as you clean their water every day or somehow create a way for the water to become biologically filtred.

Well I already made the 35 hex into the hermie tank. Compared to the small tank they were living in the 35 is huge. The floor space isn't bad either. I want to put some driftwood in so they can climb to use even more space.

Didn't know about the Salt water. Just aquarium salt? How deep. Appreciate the advice.

If you can get clean ocean water get several big water botles and colect it yourself. otherwise make sintetic salt water like you would for a marine tank. Yep they need fresh and salt water.
