My shrimp tank! I'm not even joking, after months without a water change and some shrimp turning white I guess it's time... But seriously this is crazy!

On the right is my shrimp tank, last water changes 3 months ago and is at 40ppm. On the right is my 70 gal which gets daily feeding of high protein pellets (polys and knifefish) and the plants took it down below 10ppm and last water change was 4 weeks ago. Man this surprised me.

Some shrimp had wierd colours so I checked, thank goodness.

So guys keep an eye on your water! Happy fishkeeping to y'all :)

Not quite sure I understand, why are you surprised the nitrates are high after going 3 months with no change? Shrimp are small, yes, but they still do produce waste

You go 3 months without a water change...?
Water restrictions and drought :(

Yes haha. Was just quite surprising! I'm gonna feed Less from now.

Using an airlift to slowly fill it up

Looks like a nice little setup, I would recommend more water changes though. I have a 4g planted nano in which I am breeding golden-backed yellow shrimp, and even with weekly small water changes I get a bit of nitrates accumulating. Nothing serious, but if I didn't do the changes I can see how it would build up.
May I ask what kind of shrimp you keep?

Yes it's my 8 gal :)

I must Definitely keep an eye on these things then. I have sakura reds in here, improving a friends strain. recently got carbon blues and pumpkins in different tanks as well. Got about 50+ sakuras, 2 carbon pairs and a pumpkin pair.

Those yellows are lovely!

My record is 283 mg/L NO3-.

16 mg/L NO3-N after being diluted 4X.
