I recently had some trouble with my male Hystrix (Irwin;)) that I got last year from Rapps. I figured I would post up some pics now that all is well.....:)......He was almost 6-inch disk last December and is currently at 12-inch disk and fat. I bought a female hystrix (around 5 1/2 inch disk) from Aquascape about 3 weeks ago and she is doing fine. I have them in a 240 gallon wide, with the female seperated (for now) to make sure she gets enough food. Hope you all like em!

yea that does seem to be really fast growth. almost unrealistic?

I had the same incredible (to me anyway) growth rate on my female motoro....she was 6-inches disk in Feb 2009 and I gave her away in November 2010 at 27-28 inch disk.....her growth rate was incredible.....I do miss her though, but I couldnt afford a bigger tank.

The hystrix is in a 240 wide, and really only eats nightcrawlers.....from the beginning he was a pig and ate chopped crawlers out of my hand in the first hour.....he gets 203 whole crawlers 2 times per day, and agressively pounces on the Aquatongs when he sees them....he has to coimpete with some cichlids and they always try to steal his worms.....The new female is not nearly as aggressive, and since she is mainly eating blackworms, I have her seperated. Otherwise the cichlids would get all her food.......I hope she gets onto worms soon. She has some interest and has eaten some cut up ones, but she prefers the blackworms. As soon as I feel she is fat, I will wean her off the blackworms.

X3 on the growth rate. That is really fast. Maybe the earthworms are the trick. Great looking rays though! The female is going to be really nice.

I had a typo on the amount of worms fed...the male hystrix gets 2 or 3 whole crawlers 2 times per day......and he is always wanting more.....

Have you noticed any denticles growing on the male?
