So my carpintis just killed the pleco they were living with.... They bit his eyes and gave him popeye.... AND they found the spot on the pleco where the belly meets the big scales and managed to rip a hole in him... I am so irritated at them. I know I was warned that they were vicious..... but they LOVE their babies and have no history as of yet of eating them..... ok just had to vent..... I have some 1/4 - 1/2 inchers in with my cherry barbs... any idea when this aggressiveness tends to rear its ugly head (in inches).

Mine was the lowest in the pecking order. However once she reached 4" she got into breeding mode and is pushing for the top spot. That was 2 weeks ago. She hasn't dropped eggs since but still chases my grammodes and leporinus when they get to close.

Keep in mind, I have just the one so all i got for reference is my female who's laid eggs but no fry, only male i know of in my tank is the grammodes hehe

The fry will probably start to form a heirarchy around 1/2 inch, but I wouldn't expect any serious aggression as long as you're keeping more than 5 or so together. Once they become crowded in that 10g, expect aggression to increase accordingly. The pair will continue to be aggressive to anything added to your 55g. I had a male tex pair up with a female con in a 55g, and they claimed the entire tank. I suspect yours will do the same. Eventually, you will need a larger tank to breed them safely, if you continue to do so.
