My jack dempseys laid eggs!

Mortality rate for fry can be fairly high, so don't worry.
Also, as time progresses, if you see any with a curved spine or other strange characteristics (odd gill plates, deformed mouth) it is best to cull them right away, if I see something off kilter, those individuals are dropped into another tank as feeders as soon as recognized.
There are always a certain % of fry in any spawn that are mutants, and should always be culled.

got more JD fry myself, from past experience only about 20% will actually make it to the grow tank and from there another 10% will be lost. so for good spawn will end up with 25 to 50 good fry. after they get to and inch or larger time to call LFS,s in your area and look for a store credit exchange. typically 3 bucks per fish depending where you live. in lots of 12.

I believe mortality and mutation is higher in the blue gene/electric blue types, but I totally agree with pops, ending up with 25 to 50 healthy fry is a nice spawn in my books. It might be higher if you were able to feed 5 - 10 times per day. I like to let lots of algae grow in my fry tanks to have a constant supply of grazing material.

Although in my area, if you get $1 credit for a 2" juvie JD, that'd be considered reasonable.
Is this higher in jack dempseys ?
