I've noticed his tail is getting fairly ragged, I'm wondering if he has fin rot or is this normal? I notice it a bit with my africans, but they like to pick on eachother like normal africans.

He has a salvini in the tank that they go back and forth with, but they never usually full out attack eachother.

Swims, eats and acts normal.

It is a little hard to tell but are the edges whitish? My first thoughts were it looks like physical damage.... but I wouldn't put money on it.

His other fins look fine, his eyes are clear, no 'fungus' around the mouth.. so he could be fine.

Best thing is to do a good water change, test the water and just keep an eye on it. If it gets worse and if you see white on the ragged edges then you need a fin rot/bacterial med.

It isn't fin rot. After watching and analyzing him, it was the salvini constantly picking on him.

I've moved the salvini into another tank, let the healing begin!

Anything special I can do to help him grow his fins back? He's been depressed the last couple days, I can tell.

yup salt or some mela/pima fix works wonders on fins. Just make sure you have plenty of dissolved oxygen with the mela/pima fix.

The way the fins looked, that is simply finrot. Constant tearing of the fins will eventually lead to secondary infections particularly by bacteria. I simply do daily water changes until the fins recover completely, nothing else.

My boyfriend tells me that the fins are growing back rapidly. More then 70% has been healed now.
