So, I have never owned a jaguar cichlid before, no idea wether this is normal...
My 3.5" jag has always been a shy guy/gal, hanging around behind my plastic plant, popping out for some food, but generally getting bullied by everyone, and showing very dark colouration. I just figured he would be the runt of the tank.
He then went missing for a day, I couldn't find him anywhere.....eventually found him hanging upside down behind a rock. He looked half dead, and had some kind of white marks on his head. The change had happened so quickly, I was worried. I did not have a hospital tank available, so I just gave him one more night in there, thinking it looked too late anyhow.
Next day, I went straight to look behind the rock where i had found him....not there. All the other fish were up near the feeding hatch as per usual, and lo and behold there was the jag. Beautiful silvery gold with the black markings..... no dark colouration. Completely different fish..??!!

He now has taken a territory in a cave in the middle of the tank, fighting off all comers....
To me it reminded me of a butterfly, going into chrysalis before coming out as something completely different and beautiful!
Apologies for the long winded story...... but any feedback or similar stories would be appreciated. Just a really weird thing to happen.....
