anybody else here have a problem with jags being picky eaters. My jags is almost pure black and has grown to about 3.5 inches and stopped for a couple months. He/she refuses pellets or flakes... Just eats frozen beefheart or shrimp. Is my jags picky or are they like this? Is it almost pure black because its a female or just still young? I've had it 5 months bought at about 1.5 inches.

what kind of shrimp do u feed it?

brine?
mysis?
ghost?

or regular shrimp that people eat?

i would try marinating the pellets in the jags favorite food for about 10 mins then feed it the pellets. this method worked for my stingray, usually they are more picky then cichlids....i love jags though! i wanna see some pics of yours please.

also what pellets are u feeding it?

Yes mine tends to be picky with food. I used the tetra ciclid sticks when i first got him and now am using hikari...took him a couple weeks before he started eating them...are there other fish with him? Mine was pure black because my GT was alpha in the tank...now that they are seperated my Jags colors change to gold and black....any pix of the guy?

I'll post a pic tomorrow. He likes frozen brine shrimp. Come to think of it the alpha in my tank is a flowerhorn, but he doesn't mess with him too much. He turns gold sometimes but is black most of the time.

Sounds like it may be stress related.

My jag was picky to and would not touch pellets. It would only eat crickets, shrimp, blood worms and beef heart. All those get quite spendy so I starved it. I would drop in a pellet each night and he took it around the 5th or 6th night.
