Been a while since I started the journey trying to get a male Jag. Started by getting 5 and after some fighting and some casualties due to a larger more aggressive female, I decided to keep this little guy. He wasn't the most outgoing of the bunch but he was the most colorful and territorial.

Hes starting to come out more now. Tank is a work in progress tho. Recently switched to all sponges and battle cyanobacteria.

I just introduced salvinia minima as a floating plant, hoping it will help minimize the light some and also reduce the algae by outcompeting it for nutrients.

Currently the only inhabitants are the jag and a pleco.

I like the algae on the back.
From this angle, it doesn't look like cyanobacteria to me, but one of the more desirable algal species.
Below is my latest tank, algae will soon cover the back.

As you can see it is planted moderately with both terrestrial, marginal, and aquatic plants.

But in order for plants to successfully outcompete algae, planting must be very heavy.
I imagine once these establish, it will help, but the tank does sit in direct sun, unlike like the tank next to it.

Little guy looks great! Really nice color coming in.
I bet he would be more outgoing with some cover in the tank, there is nothing for him to hide in. When young these guys are instivctively worried about getting eaten by birds- the bare tanks you see on youtube are good for when the fish is an adult, but as a young solo fish in a big bright tank with no cover, he's going to be shy for sure.

Moved some things around and stacked my sponge filters to the side (man am I happy with those aquarium coop filters!).

I threw in two java ferns in there, and two pieces of jungle val to add some green. So far it looks like the salvinia and duck weed is not taking.. not sure how but they are just dying... :(

I guess my quest for a fast growing floater continues ?

That said, the jag has been more out and about lately!

Nice jag ?
Like the algae on the back too. I’ve been trying to grow mine out. My fish like to snack on it. Pretty sure yours won’t though lol.
