My Jar's lower lip is pink and irritated because he keeps eating the pellets off the bottom of the tank. I feed it Hikari Foodsticks which he likes just fine, plus market shrimp, krill, earthworms and other stuff but he still wants to partake in the bottom feeder's food too. His lip scrapes the sand as he devours the pellets. Is that normal for Jardini?

yeh dw about the behaviour...its pretty normal cuz jars r generally aggressive feeders and they will eat food from anywhere! my jar often snacks on sinking massivore pellets as well as floating hikari gold!
If u really wana remove the scrapes i suggest tat u take out all the sand (which is probably wat is causing all the friction). feeding off the glass botom shud not cause any abrasions to the lip area!

Mine will hit the corner of the tank when he darts at a goldfish when hiding in the corner! I'm use to it already after having him for a week to two!

but generally, if an arowana ONLY feeds from the bottom, there they are slow ..... so that not good
but if you are saying that he eats from the top and bottom of the tank...
then it just means you have a pig of a jardinii....and there isNOTHING wrong with that

Thanks everyone, he just recently started doing it. I never had a Jar before and my former Silver only ate at the top. This guy isn't exclusively a bottom feeder. He eats at the top, middle, bottom or anywhere else he can. It's just weird to see him hovering at the bottom scooping up pellets off the sand. His mouth isn't built for it but he manages.
All my 14 aro's pick food up from the bottom....I do not believe that the scarred lower lip comes from that....
