Hey friends. I'm a new to MFK.
I started out with a 20 G for my kids. It all started with a friend of ours dumping their fish tank on me as they wee transfered. It started out with Mollies and guppies. As a new guy without any knowledge of fish keeping. I used to think the fishes needed cold water and used to leave the AC on. in a week the 3-4 I had got died of ICH
.
Then I started to go through all the webpages and learned a lot. Then I started with 2-3 mollies a 2-3 guppies. These started dropping frys like anything and made me buy a 20 Gallon. In this I did all the set up and mean while I got a friend in a LFS, who did everything to set it up. In his store I saw the first Arowana
. Wow what a grace. It was some HTG or something and around 10-12" long. It was for sale at US$1360. I loved the fluid movement of the fish and fell in love with it.
Meanwhile a friend of mine made me a tank L 40" x B 16" x H 20" and 8mm thick glass. I set it up with my LFS friend and put in a 5 Mollies and 5 guppies, 5 Neon Tetra, 2 Bamboo Shrimp and 2 white Plecos. As the tank was free I installed a Sunsun 1500 liter/ hour External 4 stage filter, 2 heaters and one internal filter. By the second week I lost one of the white Pleco, which got stuck in between a rock formation. After a few days we had another causalities of the Neon Tetra's just dying. No reason. The water parameters were OK, but they will just go near the external filter intake and die there. Later the LFS guy told me even all of his stock and also the main dealer who imports these had the same issues. I did a water change and the rest of the fishes were OK. And as normal in a week my fishes started dropping frys
.
After 3-4 weeks the guy in the LFS called and told me there was a Jardini available witha guy, who didn't like the look of it
. So I got my first Arowana, and that too free
. After removing most of the small fishes from the 55 Gallon, I did a water change and waited for 2 days before bringing in the new Arowana. It was a beautiful one. It had a small cut or something in between it's Barbels (A white raw spot) and another raw spot on the back. Now after 2 weeks both have disappeared. The LFS guy told me that this was kept with several other Aro's by the owner, who has 8 or 9 big ones of different colors. Anyway I'm happy with my small one.
In the initial few days it never took any food. Then later on it started eating the few mollie frys which had escaped our net. Now it eats anything I put in. Dried Shrimps, Dried worms, etc. Also initially it would hide the minute anyone passed by. Now it will just swim around and has a black and white 2" Molly as company
.
Here is the picture of the guy. I know it's not clear, but he will not stand still when I'm around. He keeps on looking up for food
