This is where my johanna lives. Its 60g and she shares it with 1 prochilodus, 1 ''avocado'' plec, 2 male cons, and 1 undercover Bcrawler. I got her (Im sure its a female) from Rapps like 2 months ago(see ''shipped pikes'' thread). She is just now FINALLy starting to show adult coloration, no more drab juvi brown and black. Well, maybe a little juvi coloration left. She is @ 9'' and mildly tempered, except with the Bcrawler, they seem to be eternal enemies. But Bcrawler remains under shelter most of the time, so its usually a quick chase to cover.I just recently planted this tank so it will take a few for it to fill out.

nice looking cren.you got there..

What are using for a substrate? Whats your lighting? Any CO2 or fert.? I am wanting to do a planted tank for some of my tanks, but just don't know where to start or what plants to use. Want plants that won't die horribly easily...and don't require much light, like java fern...haha. Yours is lookin spectacular though man! Very very impressive! :nilly: :headbang2

By the time your female johanna hits 11" she is gonna be spectcular!! ;)

I use Schultz aquatic plant soil that I buy at home depot and mix it up with some really dark gravel. For lighting Im using power compact flourescents at 2.5 watts per gallon. I havent hooked up a cO2 system yet, though the tank that all of these cuttings came from (yes, its all cuttings from overgrowth) has it and the plants grow like MAD. Im gonna be running a 400w metal halide light on my 100g starting next week (got it for dirt cheap from this closet horticulturist I know), so Ill probably add even more lighting to this tank, just in time for the cO2. cO2 is mainly for rapid plant propogation from what Ive seen. if you need any help/guidance on setting up a planted tank just let me know.

I would love to go with live plants in my large cichlid tank, Everytime I do my 9" Pleco and 8 " Royal Clown destroy them.

Pikes are the only large cichlids that I have found to not destroy plants. Ive tried a ton of other cichlids and they are all uprooters and general plant haters.
