"My journey into a fishkeeper"
An original piece by yours truly....
I walked into Petco one day. I Find myself looking for an animal... A pet. What could my newest life choice be? I want to be challenged. I want to be stimulated. I want to never stop learning or caring for this "pet". I walk up and down the rows looking at items. Bird items. Dog items. Cat items. Lizard items. I walk around the whole store and then suddenly I realize I passed 1 section..... The wall of fish. I said to myself ehh let me take a peek. I always loved aquariums growing up. I never thought of fish keeping as a hobby. Never associated a fish as a "pet" even though I had my share of gold fish die on me after throwing that ping pong ball into the bowl when I was a small child at fairs and carnivals. I pulled over the nearest employee and started asking away. I then spend the next 5 weeks researching hours a day. Filtration/Nitrogen Cycle/Best practices/3 stages of filtration???? Stacking of mechanical/chemical/biological???/fish sickness/water hardness/PH/ WOW the information never stops. My interest is sparked.
That was it. That walk down a small Petco isle changed my life. I had a new passion. I had a new hobby. I literally am the keeper and controller of a mini ecosystem. I hold the key to beauty inside a glass tank.
I am literally selling my current home and when I purchase my new one, The floor model will have to be sufficient for my new tank additions. I want to expand. Fish? ok done. Stingrays? ok lets do this. Planted tanks? Lets roll. Im in love.
This forum has also helped me in my journey along with great members such as yourself Oddball.
This is a submission for Oddballs contest, but feel free to expand my thread and talk about your journeys!
Thanks all
