The power has been out in the area of my parents house since this morning. Obviously I have power or I wouldn't be here posting.
I have no easy way of checking on my two tanks of catfishes, since the roads are dangerious and icey.
I'm mostly concerned about my synos as I've kept my pleco tank without power for two weeks due to an electric safety issue.

What concerns me most when the power comes back on, I haven't cleaned the filters in a while and I'm going to get a toxic effect.
So I have to ask how much of a threat is this?. Since I have no heard back from my parents, power may possibly be out all night.

I think I'll walk there in the morning to check on my "kitties" if the conditions are still dangerious...It's about a two hour walk so not something I should probably undetrake tonight.

well i dont know if this is a option for u, but last winter we got hammered by storm, and i lost power, my tanks, being in the basement would cool of wayyyy too quick. so i parked my jeep as close to the window as i could put a power inverter to the cigarette lighter and then use and extention cord to bridge the gap. i managed to keep 2 tanks warm that way, prolly coulda have run a filter as well, but i didnt. the only problem is you gotta leave the car running so u burn up gas

LOL Yeah I have a decent sized power inverter (400 watts) for the car as well.. and have actually done something similar which works in a pinch, I can't wait to get the UPS system running next summer... all solar and wind powered... I'm hoping to build it big enough to actually only have to use the hydro grid as a backup if the UPS can't keep up to consumption (considering I'll have both wind and solar it shouldn't be a problem but there are always times that you need more power LOL)
