DISCLAIMER: I am by NO MEANS an expert fisherman and if some things i say may sound stupid! :P

I caught a 9" largemouth bass a couple weeks ago and he is solo in a 40 breeder for now. I know he will need a much larger tank! I didnt expect to catch one so i threw together a hasty temporary setup! He is from what i can tell a TOTAL sight predator! EVERY TIME HE BITES IS A PURE REACTION BITE!!! He wont eat feeder fish until it does a sudden quick movement then he instantly chomps it at the speed of light! Ge is also a AWESOME glass banger already! You guys can keep your doviis!!! This guy goes crazy at your finger!

Yes they are reaction strikers but in the wild where they have much more space they ambush their prey more than anything. They hide behind cover like boulders and logs and ambush their prey. That bass doesn't need a bigger tank in the future he needs a bigger tank now he is already too big for that tank and with a bass especially a largemouth they get 20+ inches way to large for any 2 foot wide tank. I'm sorry but a 40 breeder is already too small considering the footprint is avarage. consider Growing him out in a min of a standard 180 and in the future plan to get something with at least a 3 foot wide footprint and at least a 6 foot long footprint. But in all reality a tank of 4 foot wide by 8 foot long would be ideal. Now that you have him you can never release him back.

Agreed. The only reason I'm not growing out a bass is because they grow way to fast and get enormous, I personally wouldn't house an adult in anything less than a 10' long by 4' wide footprint.
