I was reading and it says that these are the smallest species of gar, but also the rarest. They have about 7 at about 10-12" for $169 each. I would like to learn more about them but every site ive been to dosent have anything about them. Is this because they are that rare? I could be mistaking, They are light black with barely noticable spots. Could my LFS be mistaking them for another species? I cant compare because i havent found any accurate pictures.

Is $169 a good price for such a fish (10-12 inches)? I'd hope to get lucky and find a smaller gar for a much lower price. A 4-6 incher would be ideal. for my tank.

well they grow, so make sure you have plans for them. they get 20-24" or so. Mine is about 18" now. Price is subjective, is it worth it to you? Depends on where you live as well. They are wonderful gar, very mild and attractive. Mine dogpiles with my polys

169 if a true trop(pics would help) than yes it is worth it.
